Tab Pilot in 20 seconds

How it works

Three steps, then it types for you.

The popup walks you through it the same way, one numbered card at a time.

1

Pick a tab

Choose any open website from the list, then click into a text box on that page so Tab Pilot knows where to type.

2

Write your text

Type or paste what you want typed. Tab Pilot shows the character and word count and how long it will take.

3

Choose a speed and go

Relaxed, Normal, Fast or Instant, or drag the slider from 0 to 500 ms per key. Click Start typing or press ⌘ ↵.

Simulate human typing

Types like a person, mistakes included.

Turn on Simulate human typing and Tab Pilot stops typing like a machine. It adds natural typos, live corrections, fatigue, and proofreading.

  • Real-keyboard typos. Slips land on neighbouring keys, doubled letters, dropped letters and swapped pairs.
  • Word mix-ups. Their and there, its and it's, then and than.
  • Live corrections. It notices most typos a few keys later, backs up, and retypes.
  • Fatigue. On long texts it gets a little sloppier as it goes, like you would.
  • Proofreading. At the end it goes back and fixes most of what it missed.

Features

Small popup. Everything you need.

Works on background tabs

Tab Pilot talks to the tab by its ID, so it keeps typing while you work somewhere else.

Live progress, one-click stop

See how many characters are done and how long is left. You can close the popup; typing keeps going.

Drafts saved automatically

Your text, speed and chosen tab are remembered, so the popup is ready the next time you open it.

Four speeds and a slider

Relaxed, Normal, Fast and Instant presets, or set the exact delay between keys from 0 to 500 ms.

Inspect page

Check which element is focused and how many text fields the page has before you start.

Screenshot any tab

Capture what a tab is showing right now and save it as an image. It stays on your computer.

Under the hood

All through the Chrome DevTools Protocol.

Tab Pilot uses the same API browser automation tools are built on. It attaches to the one tab you picked, sends commands, and detaches when it's done.

Start typingInput.dispatchKeyEventSends a key down and key up for every character.
Inspect pageRuntime.evaluateRuns a little JavaScript inside the page and brings the answer back.
ScreenshotPage.captureScreenshotGrabs a PNG of what the tab is showing.
// background.js: press one key
async function pressKey(send, ch) {
  await send("Input.dispatchKeyEvent", {
    type: "keyDown", key: ch, text: ch
  });
  await send("Input.dispatchKeyEvent", {
    type: "keyUp", key: ch
  });
}

// attach to one tab, send commands, always detach
await chrome.debugger.attach({ tabId }, "1.3");

Runs on your computer

Typing, inspecting and screenshots all happen locally. No accounts, analytics or ads. The optional ✦ Humanize button is the only thing that sends text anywhere, and only when you use it.

Questions

Good to know

Why does Chrome say "Tab Pilot started debugging this browser"?

That's Chrome's own banner, shown whenever an extension uses the DevTools Protocol. Tab Pilot only attaches to the single tab you pick, and only while it's typing, inspecting or taking a screenshot.

Where does it type?

Into whatever is focused on the tab you picked. Click into the text box first, then start typing from the popup. Use Inspect page to check what's focused.

Which pages can it type into?

Any regular website (http or https). Chrome blocks extensions from its own pages, like settings and the Web Store, so those don't appear in the tab list.

Do I need to keep the popup open?

No. Once it's typing you can close the popup and keep working. Open it again to see progress or press Stop.

Does it send my text anywhere?

Typing, Inspect page and Screenshot all stay on your computer. If you click ✦ Humanize or turn on auto-humanize, your text is sent to the Clever AI service to be rewritten. See the privacy policy.
